The Roses of Winter

I took this picture just over a week ago.  I don’t remember having seen roses blooming in Sussex in January before, but then I don’t remember a winter quite as mild as this one has been – until now.

It was a good day to find this letter in the Wall Street Journal from a roll call of climate scientists questioning a climate-sceptic letter from another group of scientists; physicists, geographers, engineers.

They compared it to asking dentists to give an opinion of heart surgery.  Quite so.  I like roses in bloom.  I like Sussex in every season.  I even quite like January.  I just don’t like the combination of the three.
